Title: Inaugural Celebration of the Ralph R. and Patricia N. Sonnenschein Medals Collection and Endowment
  PDF File View the PDF
Description: Ralph Sonnenschein, MD, PhD, and UCLA professor emeritus of physiology, first became interested in scientific portrait medals when working with the U.S. Office of Naval Research in London in 1971-72. His wife, Pat, found an old medal of Joseph Priestley at a London flea market and presented it to Ralph; it was the beginning of a collecting odyssey. Through study and from like-minded collectors, Ralph learned about this fascinating art form and its associated literature. The collection now numbers more than two thousand pieces and thanks to an accompanying endowment established by the Sonnenscheins, the collection will continue to grow.
